Thu Feb 06 17:01:24 UTC 2025: ## Tiruvannamalai Imposes Stricter Traffic Rules Around Arunachaleswara Temple

**TIRUVANNAMALAI, February 6, 2025** – New traffic restrictions have been implemented around the Arunachaleswara Temple in Tiruvannamalai to alleviate pedestrian congestion caused by vehicle parking. Following a January meeting chaired by Public Works Minister E.V. Velu, a ban on four-wheelers and autorickshaws on Mada Streets is now in effect. Only two-wheelers and pedestrians are permitted during the day.

To address the ongoing issue of tourist vehicles ignoring the ban, the authorities have announced further measures. Container lorries will be allowed on Mada Streets only between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., requiring special permits. Residents will also receive special two-wheeler passes from the Regional Transport Office. Designated parking areas outside the town have been identified for tourists, and police have been instructed to prevent tourist vehicles from entering the town center.

Despite the corporation’s demolition of encroachments last year and ongoing efforts by civic officials to enforce parking regulations, concerns remain about the effectiveness of the new measures. A corporation official stated that more barricades and police personnel are needed to control illegal parking, particularly given the large crowds visiting the temple. The Tiruvannamalai All Traders’ Association echoed these concerns, citing the continued failure of the traffic police to enforce the existing ban.
