**Bengaluru, February 6, 2025** – The Karnataka Higher Education Minister, M.C. Sudhakar, has announced that action will be taken against professors and staff implicated in the ongoing National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) bribery scandal, pending evidence from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI arrested six individuals, including Gayatri Devaraj of Davangere University, on February 1st, for allegedly demanding bribes to secure an ‘A’ plus grade for Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF) in Andhra Pradesh. While the State government hasn’t yet received an official report from the CBI regarding alleged involvement of Karnataka-based professors, Bangalore University has already issued a notice to Professor M. Hanumanthappa of the Department of Computer Science.
Prof. Hanumanthappa, in his response, denied any involvement, stating he was not initially a member of the NAAC inspection committee and was only present with a friend from KLEF when the alleged bribery took place. Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Jayakara S.M. stated that further action will be taken after consultation with legal experts. The investigation is ongoing.
