Thu Feb 06 08:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Stoinis Retires from ODI Cricket to Focus on T20

**CANBERRA, Australia –** Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket, effective immediately. The 34-year-old, who made his ODI debut in 2015, cited a desire to concentrate on his T20 career as the reason for his decision.

Stoinis leaves the ODI format with a commendable record of 1495 runs and 48 wickets in 71 matches. His career highlight was an unbeaten 146 against New Zealand in 2017, just his second ODI appearance. He was also a member of Australia’s 2023 World Cup-winning squad and was named the team’s ODI cricketer of the year in 2018-19.

“Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey,” Stoinis said in a statement released by Cricket Australia. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away and fully focus on the next chapter of my career.”

Australian men’s head coach Andrew McDonald praised Stoinis’ contribution, calling him “a pivotal part of our ODI setup” and highlighting his leadership qualities and popularity within the team. Stoinis’s departure will require Cricket Australia to select a replacement for upcoming matches. He will, however, continue to be available for selection in T20 internationals.
