**Mysuru, Karnataka, February 6, 2025** – B. Chaitra and M.K. Goutham, members of India’s victorious Kho-Kho World Cup team, were honored in Mysuru today for their outstanding achievements. The felicitation ceremony, attended by Arjuna Awardee Shobha Narayan and Mt. Everest climber Usha Hegde, celebrated the athletes’ contributions to the sport.

Narayan advocated for continued state government support for athletes through the Ekalavya Prize, mirroring the national Arjuna Award. Hegde praised Chaitra’s young age and inspiring success, urging her to continue striving for excellence.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the State Sugarcane Cultivators Association, highlighted the unifying power of sports and called for greater recognition of Chaitra and Goutham’s achievements, suggesting job opportunities and land grants as suitable rewards. He further proposed a permanent award in Chaitra’s name.

Speakers at the event criticized the current ₹5 lakh financial support offered to world champion athletes as inadequate and pledged to meet the Chief Minister to request a reevaluation of this support. The parents of the Kho-Kho World Cup winners were also recognized at the ceremony.
