Thu Feb 06 15:46:30 UTC 2025: **India Wins Thrilling First ODI Against England by 4 Wickets**

Nagpur, India – India secured a thrilling 4-wicket victory over England in the first One Day International (ODI) of their three-match series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. This win gives India a 1-0 lead in the series.

Chasing a challenging 249-run target, India’s innings saw three crucial half-centuries. Shubman Gill top-scored with 87 runs, while Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel contributed 59 and 52 runs respectively. Axar Patel’s knock was particularly crucial, guiding India to victory in the final stages. The Indian lower middle order played a responsible role in taking their team to the finish line. Their innings wasn’t without its nervy moments though, with the loss of wickets at crucial junctures keeping the match exciting.

India’s success was partly due to the impressive bowling performance of debutant pacer Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja, both taking 3 wickets each. Mohammed Shami, playing his first ODI since the 2023 World Cup, also chipped in with a crucial wicket.

England’s innings, despite fifties from captain Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell, fell short of a competitive total. They were bowled out for 248 in 47.4 overs.

The second ODI will be played on February 9th at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. This series marks India’s first home ODI series since the 2023 World Cup and is significant given England’s winless streak in ODI series in India for the past 40 years. The return of key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (who did not play in this match), and Mohammed Shami adds to the series’ excitement.
