Thu Feb 06 08:00:43 UTC 2025: ## India Faces England in ODI Series Opener; Kohli Out, New Faces Debut

**Nagpur, India –** India and England clashed in the first of a three-match One Day International (ODI) series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday. England, winning the toss, opted to bat first.

The match marks the return of Mohammed Shami to ODI cricket after a break since the World Cup final in November. Shami, India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 24 scalps, recently played in the T20I series against England.

However, India will be without star batsman Virat Kohli, who is sidelined due to a sore right knee. The match also saw the international debuts of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and seamer Harshit Rana, with senior player Virat Kohli offering his congratulations to Rana before the match. Veteran Virat Kohli was seen congratulating the new player.

This is India’s first ODI since August 2024, following a 0-2 series loss to Sri Lanka. The series is highly anticipated, given India’s recent T20I victory over England and the return of key players for both teams.
