Thu Feb 06 07:17:13 UTC 2025: ## Erode East By-election Sees Lower Voter Turnout

**ERODE, TAMIL NADU (February 6, 2025)** – The by-election for the Erode (East) Assembly constituency concluded on Wednesday with a voter turnout of 67.97%, significantly lower than the 74.79% recorded in the 2023 by-election. Polling officials reported brisk voting in the morning, but turnout slowed considerably in the final hour. The lower turnout is attributed to the boycott by the AIADMK and BJP, with many party members abstaining from voting.

The election saw 237 polling stations across 53 locations open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Turnout figures at various intervals were: 10.95% by 9 a.m., 26.03% by 11 a.m., 42.41% by 1 p.m., 53.63% by 3 p.m., and 64.02% by 5 p.m.

Vote counting will take place at the Government College of Engineering in Chithode on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
