**New Delhi, February 7, 2025** – Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 60.44 percent in Wednesday’s Assembly elections, slightly lower than the 2020 figure of 63 percent, the Election Commission of India announced Thursday. The highest turnout was in North East Delhi (66.25%), while South East Delhi recorded the lowest (56.31%). Musfafabad constituency in North East Delhi saw the highest individual turnout at approximately 69 percent.
This election saw significant interest in Musfafabad, where AIMIM fielded Tahir Hussain, an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots. The seat was previously held by AAP in 2020, BJP in 2015, and Congress in 2013 and 2008.
While the final results will be declared on February 8th, several exit polls are predicting a dramatic shift in power. At least six polls forecast a BJP landslide victory, potentially ending the AAP’s eleven-year rule. Predictions vary widely, with the BJP projected to win anywhere between 35 and 60 seats, while AAP’s projected seats range from 21 to 37. The majority mark in the 70-member assembly is 36. The contrasting predictions highlight the uncertainty surrounding the election outcome, despite the strong projections for the BJP. In 2020, AAP won a resounding victory with 62 seats, leaving the BJP with 8 and Congress with none.
