**Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will personally offer silk cloths (“pattu vastrams”) to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam on February 23rd, during the Mahasivaratri Brahmotsavams festival. This marks the first time a Chief Minister has performed this ritual on behalf of the state government; typically, the Endowments Minister or a district Minister handles this. The Chief Minister’s offering mirrors the tradition at Tirumala, where the CM offers silk cloths to Lord Venkateswara.
The Mahasivaratri Brahmotsavams, a major religious festival, will run from February 19th to March 1st. Temple officials are preparing for a large influx of devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. Other temples, including Srikalahasti, Dwaraka Tirumala, Sri Kanaka Durga, and Kanipakam, along with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), will also offer silk cloths to their presiding deities during the festival period.
Temple Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao has overseen preparations, focusing on ensuring an adequate and safe drinking water supply for the expected crowds. He emphasized water purification measures to prevent waterborne illnesses and instructed officials to set up convenient laddu prasadam (sweet offering) sale points near parking areas. This will be Mr. Naidu’s third visit to the Srisailam temple since taking office.
