**Chennai, February 6, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government announced a new initiative to increase access to affordable healthcare. The state is accepting applications for the “Mudhalvar Marundhagam” (Chief Minister Pharmacy) program, which will establish subsidized generic pharmacies across the state.
Aspiring entrepreneurs with a B.Pharm degree or diploma (or the consent of a degree/diploma holder) can apply online at http://www.mudhalvarmarundhagam.tn.gov.in. Applicants must have or be able to secure a space of at least 110 square feet.
Selected applicants will receive a Rs. 3 lakh government subsidy in two installments – one cash payment and the other in the form of medicines. Additional funding can be obtained through cooperative bank loans. Successful applicants will undergo training before receiving the first installment of Rs. 1.5 lakh. The second installment will be disbursed after the purchase of necessary storage infrastructure (racks, refrigerator, air conditioning, and storage boxes). Further incentives will be provided based on sales performance.
