**Madison, WI – February 4, 2025** – Bestselling author Neil Gaiman and his wife, Amanda Palmer, are facing three civil lawsuits alleging repeated sexual assault. The lawsuits were filed on Monday in federal courts in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and New York by a New Zealand woman who claims Gaiman assaulted her while she worked as their babysitter and nanny.
The victim, who was identified in a January article by New York Magazine, alleges the assaults began in February 2022 and continued for months. She claims she was homeless and vulnerable when she was invited to work for the couple in New Zealand. The lawsuits further allege that Palmer was aware of Gaiman’s actions and even facilitated them, knowing of previous accusations against him. The victim states that Palmer revealed over a dozen women had previously accused Gaiman of sexual abuse.
The lawsuits claim Gaiman’s actions constitute human trafficking and seek at least $7 million in damages. The victim’s attorneys state Gaiman is a Wisconsin resident, while Palmer’s residency is unclear. A police report was filed in January 2023, but whether an investigation ensued remains unconfirmed.
Gaiman previously denied the allegations in a statement released after a New York Magazine article detailed accusations from eight women, four of which were previously reported in a Tortoise Media podcast. However, the fallout continues, with publishers HarperCollins and W.W. Norton announcing they have no plans for future Gaiman releases, while Dark Horse Comics has canceled its illustrated series based on his novel “Anansi Boys.” Disney has paused adaptation plans for “The Graveyard Book,” although Netflix’s second season of “The Sandman” remains scheduled.
Representatives for Gaiman and Palmer have not yet commented on the lawsuits.
