Wed Feb 05 09:31:38 IST 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections Underway: AAP Seeks Third Term Amidst BJP, Congress Challenges
**New Delhi, February 5, 2025** – Voting is underway in the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) aiming for a third consecutive victory. Over 1.56 crore eligible voters are casting their ballots at 13,766 polling stations across 70 constituencies. A total of 699 candidates are vying for seats in an election that could significantly alter Delhi’s political landscape.
The AAP is banking on its governance record and welfare schemes, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are hoping for a resurgence. The BJP aims to reclaim the capital after more than 25 years of opposition, and Congress seeks a comeback after its dismal performance in the previous two elections.
Security is tight, with the Election Commission deploying substantial security personnel, including paramilitary forces and Delhi Police, particularly at nearly 3,000 sensitive polling booths. Measures such as drone surveillance are in place to ensure smooth voting.
Voters expressed varied concerns. Some highlighted the need for improved water supply and drainage, while others emphasized the importance of education and better infrastructure. Several voters mentioned the AAP’s welfare schemes, including free water and electricity, as factors influencing their vote.
The election is widely viewed as a referendum on AAP’s governance under Arvind Kejriwal. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens and people with disabilities, including the provision of e-rickshaws and accessible polling stations. A Queue Management System (QMS) app is also in place to help voters track wait times.
Polling continues until 6 p.m., with results expected on February 8th. The outcome will determine whether AAP maintains its dominance, BJP ends its losing streak, or Congress stages a surprising return to power.
