Tue Feb 04 19:51:12 UTC 2025: ## School Faces Backlash After Student’s Suicide; Abetment Charges Filed
**Bengaluru, February 5, 2025** – The mother of a 15-year-old boy who died by suicide after allegedly being bullied at Global Public School (GPS) International has strongly refuted the school’s statement regarding her son’s enrollment. The school’s statement referred to the boy’s admission as a “second chance,” implying expulsion from his previous school, GEMS Modern Academy. The mother insists her son was neither expelled nor sought to leave GEMS, and the family chose to transfer him to GPS.
She further contradicted the school’s claim that the family signed an undertaking indicating her son required special monitoring, asserting this was untrue. She stated that a written complaint detailing the bullying and ragging, supported by social media evidence, was filed with the school on January 23rd, a week before her son’s death. She also claims other students reported bullying to the school during the same period. The mother alleges the school’s claim of only learning about the bullying through social media is false and that their inaction cost her son’s life. The school counters that the boy was merely a witness to a fight, and no complaints were raised by the family following a meeting with school authorities.
The school maintains that they investigated the ragging claims after the boy’s death, based on Instagram posts, and found no wrongdoing after questioning students, parents, and teachers involved. Police also questioned those allegedly involved, who denied any incident, and advised the school to await official findings.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged suicide has invoked charges of abetment to suicide, although no one has been named as an accused yet. The accused will be added during the course of the investigation.
The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting concerns about school bullying and the responsibility of educational institutions in protecting students’ well-being.
