Tue Feb 04 11:27:13 UTC 2025: ## INDIA Bloc Tensions Flare as Akhilesh Yadav Criticizes Congress, Backs AAP in Delhi Polls

**New Delhi:** Tensions within the INDIA opposition alliance spilled into the Lok Sabha today as Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav delivered a sharp critique of the BJP while subtly distancing himself from the Congress. His comments, delivered during a parliamentary debate, highlighted growing cracks within the coalition ahead of crucial state elections.

Yadav criticized both the BJP and Congress for their handling of the border dispute with China, alleging land loss under both governments. He specifically blamed the Congress for neglecting the manufacturing sector following the 1991 economic reforms, a remark that drew a playful rebuke from the Speaker. Yadav responded with a quip of his own, highlighting the perceived difference in political strategies.

The SP leader’s speech came a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed the army had confirmed Chinese incursions into Indian territory – a claim refuted by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Yadav’s comments further fueled the debate, adding to the already existing friction within the INDIA bloc.

Yadav also reiterated his support for a caste survey, criticizing the Congress for past opposition to the measure. While pledging support for the Congress on this issue, he emphasized the SP’s leading role in pushing for the survey. This seemingly conciliatory statement, however, was delivered alongside pointed jabs at the Congress’s past actions.

Adding to the tension, Yadav openly endorsed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Delhi elections, urging voters to unite against the BJP and avoid wasting their votes. This overt support for AAP, a rival of the Congress in Delhi, underscores the deep divisions within the INDIA alliance. Other INDIA bloc allies, including the Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), have also publicly backed AAP, exacerbating the internal conflict.

The recent Congress setbacks in Haryana and Maharashtra have further fueled calls for a leadership change within the INDIA bloc, adding another layer of complexity to the already fraught situation. Yadav’s speech serves as a clear indication that the INDIA alliance is facing significant internal challenges as it navigates the path to the next general election.
