**Fort Myers, FL** – Lee County is buzzing with excitement as voting opens for the coveted News-Press Student of the Week award. Five exceptional students from various high schools are in the running, each boasting impressive academic achievements and extracurricular involvement. Voting closes Thursday, February 6th, at 5 p.m.

**Exceptional Nominees:**

* **Jahquez “Quez” Outten (Evangelical Christian School):** This tenth-grader is a two-year Varsity Basketball captain, a three-year football player, and an active member of Sentinels for Christ and Boys Bible Study. Quez also volunteers at a local food pantry and plans to pursue a career in Broadcasting and Communication.

* **Sophia Deiman (Cypress Lake High School):** Maintaining a 4.94 GPA while excelling in AICE and AP courses, Sophia is a leader in the Theatre Department, a cheerleader, and a member of several honor societies. She also works part-time and volunteers for Be a Buddy and Panther Theatre Summer Camp.

* **Megan Padron (Ida S. Baker High School):** Ranking first in her class with a 5.65 GPA, Megan is the JROTC Battalion Commander and Area Commander for Lee County. She’s also a dual enrollment student at Florida Southwestern State College, a gymnastics coach, and a dedicated volunteer with over 175 hours of community service.

* **Samantha Mitchell (Bishop Verot High School):** This National Merit Semifinalist is involved in numerous honor societies, varsity swim team, and volunteers extensively with the Sanibel Sea School. She plans to attend the University of Notre Dame to study Biology and Studio Art.

* **Ben Lucas (North Fort Myers High School):** With a 4.52 weighted GPA, Ben is the JROTC Brigade Commander, Senior Class Vice President, co-founder of the National English Honor Society, and captain of the JROTC Raiders team. He’s also a member of the HOSA Biomedical Debate team and aspires to become a military pilot.

* **Travis Heinrichs (North Fort Myers High School):** This senior is praised by teachers for his intellectual curiosity, diligence, and leadership. He’s the chess club president, a multi-sport athlete, and demonstrates a commitment to helping others, potentially through a career in medicine.
