Tue Feb 04 13:30:13 UTC 2025: ## Over 280 BJP Members Arrested in Tamil Nadu Following Protests

**Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu, February 4, 2025** – Over 280 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and affiliated pro-Hindu organizations were arrested across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday following protests against the denial of permission for a Hindu Munnani demonstration in Madurai.

The Hindu Munnani sought permission to protest in Thiruparankundram, Madurai, demanding protection of a revered hill and its sanctity, citing concerns over alleged non-vegetarian food consumption on the hillock where a Dargah is also located. The Madurai district administration’s subsequent ban on the demonstration, issued amid existing communal tensions, sparked widespread protests.

In Tiruchi district, approximately 70 BJP members were arrested at various locations including Tiruverumbur, Manachanallur, and Musiri, after attempting to stage demonstrations against the ban. Simultaneously, in neighboring Thanjavur district, around 180 protestors were apprehended following demonstrations in eight locations. Further arrests totaling approximately 30 individuals occurred in Ariyalur district.

Police sources confirmed the arrests, stating that the protests were organized in response to the denial of permission to the Hindu Munnani. The situation highlights ongoing religious tensions in the region.
