Patna, February 4, 2025 – Jharkhand BJP president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi on Tuesday demanded transparency from Chief Minister Hemant Soren regarding ₹1.36 lakh crore allegedly owed to the state by the central government. Marandi challenged Soren to provide a detailed breakdown of the claimed amount, specifying the source, amount, and timeframe of the outstanding dues.
Marandi accused the JMM-led state government of using the ₹1.36 lakh crore figure for political purposes, stating that the public deserves a clear accounting. He drew a parallel to ordinary citizens being required to provide details when claiming owed money. He further suggested the government advertise the detailed breakdown, similar to its promotions of other schemes.
The demand comes after Soren wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year requesting the release of the funds, and the JMM reiterated this demand in a 50-point resolution on its foundation day. Marandi’s statement was accompanied by a broader attack on the state government, citing rampant corruption and its negative impact on ordinary citizens. He alleged widespread bribery, even affecting land transactions.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Soren announced Jharkhand’s intention to take control of closed coal mines within the state to boost regional development, criticizing the central government’s decision to hand them over to private companies.
