**Mumbai, India** – The Maharashtra state government has implemented a new policy mandating the use of Marathi in all government and semi-government offices. A Government Resolution (GR) issued Monday makes speaking Marathi compulsory for all officials, extending to local self-governments, corporations, and government-aided institutions. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action. This move follows the approval of the Marathi Language Policy last year, aiming to promote and preserve the state’s official language. The GR also requires all office PCs to include Marathi Devanagari script alongside Roman alphabets.
