Mon Feb 03 20:36:36 UTC 2025: ## BJP Veteran Contests Delhi Assembly Election for the First Time

**New Delhi, February 4, 2025** – Satish Upadhyay, a 62-year-old veteran BJP leader, is contesting his first ever Assembly election in Malviya Nagar. Upadhyay, who served as Delhi BJP chief from 2014-2016, is vying against incumbent MLA and AAP candidate Somnath Bharti, and Congress’s Jitendra Kumar Kochar.

His political career began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Delhi University, where he honed his political skills advocating for student rights. He now aims to improve the lives of Delhi’s residents, criticizing the current AAP government for its failure to address degrading civic amenities and poor governance across the city, excluding the NDMC area.

Upadhyay, whose father worked for the Indian Railways, emphasizes that a strong political family background isn’t essential for success. He recalls past protests, including a peaceful demonstration in 2003 involving 116 people against the Sheila Dikshit government, highlighting his commitment to non-violent political action. Despite being overlooked for the 2015 Assembly elections, he now aims to bring his experience and commitment to the people of Malviya Nagar.
