Tue Feb 04 16:46:42 IST 2025: ## Thousands of Indian Companies Close, While New Registrations Remain High

**New Delhi, February 4, 2025** – India saw a significant number of company closures in the current financial year, according to data released by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. A total of 17,654 companies were shut down by January 26th, 2025. This includes companies that were merged, converted into LLPs (Limited Liability Partnerships), liquidated, dissolved, or removed from official records. This figure is lower than the 22,044 closures in 2023-24 and the 84,801 in 2022-23.

Despite the closures, a substantial number of new companies were registered during the same period. The ministry reported 138,027 new company registrations by January 26th, 2025. This is lower than the 185,318 registrations in 2023-24 and 159,302 in 2022-23.

Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, revealed these figures in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. He also highlighted the government’s efforts to simplify business operations, including the decriminalization of 63 offenses under the Companies and LLP Acts. The data was requested by Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani of the YSRCP.
