Tue Feb 04 02:28:39 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra to Experiment with AI in Agriculture

**Mumbai, February 4, 2025** – The Maharashtra government is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in agriculture to boost productivity and reduce costs for farmers. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced the initiative on Monday following a review meeting with agriculture officials and stakeholders.

The initiative will focus on assessing the feasibility of integrating AI into farming practices, including monitoring crop health, soil quality, and pest identification. Mr. Pawar emphasized the need for a practical and financially viable approach to ensure widespread adoption by farmers.

“AI can play a pivotal role in tackling challenges like erratic weather and labour shortages,” said Mr. Pawar. He highlighted AI’s potential to optimize resource use, improve harvesting, and reduce reliance on chemical inputs. The goal is not only to increase yields but also to create a more sustainable and economically viable farming model.

The move comes as the agriculture sector faces increasing challenges from climate change and resource limitations. The agriculture and cooperation departments will conduct a detailed assessment of the technical and financial implications before proceeding. The project will involve collaboration with experts and stakeholders within the agricultural sector.
