**Mumbai, India** – Fitness coach Luke Coutinho recently shared a video on Instagram detailing the numerous health benefits of cumin, a common spice in Indian cuisine. Coutinho highlighted cumin’s positive effects on various aspects of health, including digestion, liver function, skin health, sleep, and respiratory health.
According to Coutinho, cumin aids digestion, stimulates bile production for better fat breakdown, and possesses antioxidant and antimicrobial properties beneficial for the skin. While not a sleep remedy in itself, a cumin tea an hour before bed may promote relaxation. He also noted cumin’s anti-inflammatory properties are beneficial for lung health.
Coutinho suggested various ways to incorporate cumin into one’s diet, including consuming it raw, chewing it, using it in cooking, making it into a masala, or preparing it as a tea (potentially with added ginger and lemon).
However, Coutinho included an important disclaimer, emphasizing that while food can offer medicinal properties, it should not replace prescribed medications like steroids, chemotherapy, or radiation.
