Tue Feb 04 01:41:39 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Heads to the Polls: AAP Seeks Third Win, BJP Aims for Comeback

**New Delhi, January 31, 2025** – Delhiites will head to the polls on February 5th to elect a new assembly, with campaigning officially concluding on Monday. Around 1.56 crore voters will choose among candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress, across 13,766 polling stations. Results will be announced on February 8th.

The election is a crucial three-way contest. AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, is aiming for a third consecutive victory after sweeping the 2015 and 2020 elections. The BJP, which hasn’t held power in Delhi for 27 years, is hoping to make a significant comeback, while the Congress seeks to regain lost ground.

Kejriwal, during a recent roadshow, expressed confidence in winning over 55 seats, potentially reaching 60 with increased female voter support. He appealed to women to sway male family members away from the BJP, portraying it as a party of the rich. Congress leader Ajay Maken, however, expressed confidence in a surprising outcome, predicting the possibility of Congress forming the government.

The election has been marked by intense campaigning, with both AAP and BJP engaging in heated exchanges. Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Kejriwal for allegedly insulting Haryana by accusing the state of polluting the Yamuna river. Kejriwal, meanwhile, accused the BJP of potentially manipulating voting machines and urged voters to cast their ballots in such large numbers as to prevent any manipulation. He also highlighted AAP’s achievements in providing free electricity and water. Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the AAP government of hindering students’ academic progress.

The Election Commission has prohibited the release of exit polls until 6:30 PM on February 5th. The election also coincides with by-polls in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The upcoming results will significantly impact the national political landscape.
