Tue Feb 04 14:11:45 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Votes Today in High-Stakes Assembly Elections
**New Delhi, February 7, 2025** – Delhiites are heading to the polls today in a closely contested election for the 70-seat Delhi Vidhan Sabha. Over 1.56 crore voters will cast their ballots at 13,766 polling stations across the city. The election, considered highly competitive, pits the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), seeking a third consecutive term, against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
Both AAP and BJP have fielded several candidates who switched parties recently, intensifying the political battle. All three major parties have aggressively campaigned, promising a range of freebies and welfare schemes to woo voters. The Election Commission has made special arrangements for differently-abled voters, designating 733 accessible polling stations.
The election has been marred by allegations and accusations. AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the Delhi Police of threatening AAP candidate Jai Bhagwan Upadhyay in the Bawana constituency, alleging bias and collusion with the BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a pre-election address, criticized Kejriwal’s alleged lavish spending on renovating his official residence, “Sheesh Mahal,” contrasting it with his government’s focus on public welfare.
Election authorities report significant seizures in the run-up to the election, including over ₹220 crore worth of assets, comprising cash, drugs, precious metals, and other items confiscated in violation of the model code of conduct. Over 7,500 complaints were received through the C-Vigil app, with most resolved. Police have also intensified security at border checkpoints and reported the seizure of illegal weapons and arrests for various violations.
Exit polls will be released shortly after voting concludes today, with the official results announced on February 8th. In the 2020 elections, AAP won a landslide victory with 62 seats, while BJP secured 8 and Congress drew a blank. The outcome of today’s election remains highly uncertain.
