**RIYADH, Saudi Arabia** – Undefeated middleweight prospect Shara Magomedov suffered his first career loss Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 250, falling to Michael Page via unanimous decision in the co-main event. Despite being the favorite going into the fight, Magomedov (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) was unable to overcome Page’s (23-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) elusive counter-striking style.
UFC President Dana White acknowledged the difficulty of facing Page, stating that the fight presented a strategic dilemma for Magomedov. “You have to be aggressive with Page, but he’s a counter-striker who sits back and waits,” White explained. “It’s a tough situation.”
White, however, expressed continued confidence in Magomedov’s future, emphasizing that Page presents a challenging matchup for any fighter. He attributed the loss to stylistic differences rather than any shortcomings in Magomedov’s performance, noting Page’s unique counter-punching ability and the inherent difficulty in engaging him effectively. White also highlighted Page’s one-eyed status as a factor that impacts his fighting style and shouldn’t diminish Magomedov’s achievements. “I don’t think this diminishes (Magomedov) in any way,” White stated. “Styles make fights, and MVP is a very tough style to fight.” The loss, while ending Magomedov’s undefeated run, doesn’t appear to have significantly impacted his standing within the UFC.
