**Kolkata, February 4, 2025** – The Border Security Force (BSF) reported the apprehension of four Bangladeshi nationals attempting to smuggle cattle into India. The incident occurred Sunday night near the Itaghati border outpost in West Bengal, under the cover of darkness and fog.

According to a BSF press statement, the smugglers confessed to their intentions during interrogation, revealing they expected to receive ₹40,000 for smuggling two cattle from India to Bangladesh. The usual smuggling route in this area is via the Punarbhaba river.

The apprehended individuals have been handed over to local police for further investigation, and authorities are pursuing leads to identify any accomplices. This incident follows recent reports of heightened tensions along the India-Bangladesh border, particularly in Malda, stemming from border fencing disputes and clashes between locals from both countries.
