While the studio enjoyed a hugely successful 2024, with multiple awards contenders, its new horror film *Opus*, premiering at Sundance, has received a disappointing 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This continues a trend of relatively low scores for the studio’s horror releases.

*Opus*, directed by Mark Anthony Green and starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich, follows a young writer investigating the secluded estate of a vanished pop star. While critics praise the performances and visuals, they cite uneven storytelling and a failure to fully realize its horror and satirical elements as shortcomings.

This low score follows similar disappointing results for A24’s *The Front Room* and *Y2K* in 2024. However, the studio isn’t entirely down: *On Becoming a Guinea Fowl*, also slated for a March release, boasts a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, offering a potential counterpoint to *Opus*’s reception.
