**Chennai, February 3, 2025** – The Avadi City Police have announced a significant crackdown on white-collar crime, resulting in the arrest of 291 individuals and the recovery of over ₹50 crore in assets in 2024. The Central Crime Branch (CCB), focusing on economic offences like fraud and land grabbing, played a key role in the operation.
According to Avadi City Police Commissioner K. Shankar, a proactive approach, including expedited investigations and asset freezes, has been crucial in both recovering losses for victims and deterring future crimes. A record 272 chargesheets were filed in 2024, with five habitual offenders detained under the Goondas Act. The CCB also implemented victim support programs, holding meetings to address grievances and build confidence.
The surge in white-collar crime also saw a parallel increase in cybercrime, with 433 FIRs registered in 2024 for offences ranging from online trading fraud to digital arrest scams. The Cyber Crime Wing, strengthened with additional personnel, has arrested 53 individuals and frozen ₹8.55 crore in assets, returning ₹2.24 crore to victims.
Commissioner Shankar emphasized the police’s commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring justice for victims of financial fraud. The ongoing efforts highlight a determined approach to combating the growing threat of white-collar crime in the Avadi suburbs.
