**Mumbai, February 3, 2025** – The number of suspected Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in Maharashtra has climbed to 163, with five suspected deaths, according to the State Public Health Department. Confirmed cases stand at 127, with 28 patients currently on ventilator support.

The majority of suspected cases (90%) are within the 0-59 age group, with the 20-29 age group reporting the highest number (35 cases). A significant cluster of cases (approximately 101) is concentrated in Pune and its surrounding areas.

Authorities have sent 63 serum samples to NIMHANS Bengaluru for testing and previously analyzed 168 water samples, finding contamination in eight sources. A state-level rapid response team has been deployed, and increased surveillance is underway. The Public Health Department advises citizens to consume only safe water and avoid uncooked meat and stale food. While acknowledging the rise in cases, the department assures the public that necessary actions are being taken and urges against panic.
