Mon Feb 03 18:47:40 IST 2025: **NIA Arrests Two for Allegedly Conspiring with Banned Group Hizb ut-Tahrir**

TIRUCHI, February 3, 2025 – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two men, Bava Bahrudeen (alias Mannai Bava) and Kabeer Ahmed Aliyar, on Monday for allegedly conspiring to promote the ideology of the banned organization Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT). The NIA alleges the men were involved in secret meetings (“Bayaan”) and an exhibition showcasing the military power of Islamic nations, with the aim of overthrowing the Indian government through violent jihad.

The arrests stem from an ongoing NIA investigation into six individuals. The agency claims the accused were influenced by HuT’s extremist ideology, which seeks to establish an Islamic caliphate globally. The HuT was banned in India in October 2024 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA’s investigation is continuing to uncover the extent of the conspiracy, including international links and funding sources. A search of Bahrudeen’s home in Mannargudi, Tiruvarur district, preceded his arrest.
