**PALAKKADA, Kerala, February 3, 2025** – A new honey processing unit is set to launch in Edavani, Attappady, aimed at empowering Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in the region. The unit, named “Sahya,” will be inaugurated on Tuesday by Minister O.R. Kelu.

This joint venture between the Kerala State government and the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs will be managed by a PVTG self-help group. The project focuses on sustainable harvesting of forest products, including honey and medicinal plants, to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable tribal communities.

The initiative, implemented by the Centre for Management Development (CMD), Kerala, targets Kattunayakans, Kurumbas, Koragas, and Cholanaikans across Palakkad, Wayanad, Kasaragod, and Malappuram districts. These districts were selected due to their significant tribal populations, with the project aiming to benefit 240 beneficiaries across various settlements.

The project will provide training, infrastructure, and new livelihood opportunities tailored to the skills and cultural practices of the PVTGs. The Sahya honey will be the flagship product of this initiative.
