Mon Feb 03 06:04:02 UTC 2025: ## Jharkhand’s Ruling Party Rejects CAA, UCC, NRC; CM Soren Criticizes Union Budget

**Dumka, Jharkhand (February 3, 2025):** The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party has formally rejected the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state. The resolution, passed during the party’s 46th foundation day celebrations on Sunday, also demanded stricter implementation of land tenure acts and payment of ₹1.36 lakh crore owed to the state by the central government.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren, addressing a large gathering, heavily criticized the recently announced Union Budget, calling it a betrayal of the state’s people. He accused the central government of neglecting Jharkhand despite its significant contribution to the national exchequer through mineral resources. Soren highlighted the state’s backwardness and alleged that the budget disproportionately favors the wealthy, while offering little relief to the poor despite rising inflation. He specifically criticized the government’s GYAN initiative, which offers loans instead of grants, as insufficient.

Soren also defended the state government’s ₹2,500 monthly assistance to women, countering BJP accusations of distributing “revri” (freebies) by pointing out a similar promise made by the BJP in Delhi. He accused the BJP of hypocrisy, stating that their actions are deemed acceptable, while the JMM’s similar initiatives are criticized.
