Mon Feb 03 13:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Teen’s Suicide Sparks Outrage, Demands for Accountability

**Kochi, Kerala –** The suicide of 15-year-old Mihir Ahammed has ignited widespread outrage in Kerala, prompting calls for a thorough investigation and stricter anti-bullying measures. Mihir, who jumped from his family’s 26th-floor apartment on January 15th, allegedly suffered brutal ragging and bullying at his school in Thripunithara.

His mother, Rajna PM, revealed horrific details of the abuse, stating that Mihir was beaten, verbally abused, and subjected to humiliating acts, including being forced to lick a toilet seat and have his head submerged in a flushing toilet. She alleges the bullying also targeted his skin color.

Following Mihir’s death, police initially registered a suicide case. However, after Rajna’s appeal to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the state police chief, a special investigation team has been formed.

Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed their condolences and demanded accountability. Rahul Gandhi stated on X (formerly Twitter) that bullying is destructive and that those responsible, both the bullies and those who failed to act, must be held accountable. Priyanka Gandhi echoed these sentiments, highlighting the heartbreak of Mihir’s mother and calling for stricter laws to prevent ragging. She criticized the school for its perceived attempt to cover up the incident.

The tragedy has also sparked reactions from prominent actors. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Prithviraj Sukumaran, among others, condemned the ragging culture and emphasized the need for empathy and stronger action against bullying.

The incident underscores the urgent need to address bullying in schools and create safer learning environments for children, as the case highlights the devastating consequences of unchecked harassment. The ongoing investigation is expected to shed further light on the events leading up to Mihir’s death and potentially lead to legal consequences for those involved.
