**London, England** – Arsenal produced a sensational performance to dismantle reigning champions Manchester City 5-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to 14 games.
The Gunners took an early lead when Martin Ødegaard converted a pass from Kai Havertz after just 103 seconds. Havertz had earlier tested City’s goalkeeper, and Gabriel Martinelli was ruled offside after a subsequent goal. City responded with increased possession and a near-goal from Josko Gvardiol, but Arsenal had chances of their own, notably a missed opportunity from Havertz. City’s Stefan Ortega made a late save to deny Savinho before halftime.
Erling Haaland equalized for City with a header ten minutes into the second half, but Arsenal immediately responded. Thomas Partey’s deflected shot put Arsenal back in front within two minutes, followed by a stunning solo goal from Myles Lewis-Skelly, his first senior goal for the club. Havertz then added a fourth with a clinical finish after a counter-attack. The scoring was capped off in dramatic fashion by Ethan Nwaneri, who scored a superb left-footed strike with the final kick of the game.
The victory marks Arsenal’s biggest ever win against the reigning champions and City’s heaviest Premier League away defeat since January 2017. Nwaneri (17) and Lewis-Skelly (18) became the youngest players to score against the reigning champions in a Premier League game since Wayne Rooney in 2003, marking only the fourth time two players aged 18 or younger scored for the same team in a single Premier League match. The match also highlighted City’s defensive vulnerabilities, conceding 4+ goals for the fourth time this season under Pep Guardiola – the most in his managerial career.
Arsenal now face a Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle, trailing 2-0 from the first leg. Their next Premier League fixture is away to Leicester on February 15th.
