LOS ANGELES – Emmy-nominated actor James Marsden is adding another high-profile role to his impressive resume: President of the United States. Marsden stars as President Cal Bradford in Hulu’s new political thriller, *Paradise*, a series created by *This Is Us* mastermind Dan Fogelman and co-starring Sterling K. Brown and Julianne Nicholson.
In *Paradise*, Marsden portrays a President unlike any seen before. “He’s kind of rewriting the definition of what a President looks like,” Marsden explained in a recent interview. “He doesn’t really want the job. He was sort of bred to be this – to get into politics by his father and a long line of Bradfords.” The role marks a departure from previous presidential portrayals, including his role as John F. Kennedy in *The Butler*.
The 51-year-old actor, known for his roles in *X-Men*, *The Notebook*, *Hairspray*, and *Sonic the Hedgehog*, reflects on his career evolution, stating that he now prioritizes projects with meaningful stories and characters. “As you get older…you want to take work only when you feel like there’s something to be said,” he shared. He expressed a desire for roles with more depth and impact, moving away from one-dimensional villains.
Asked about his personal aspirations if he were President, Marsden jokingly responded, “Get everyone to chill the f— out.” He emphasized the importance of unity and understanding, advocating for a world without conflict. “I would like to see [war] done away with,” he stated, noting the interconnectedness of the modern world.
*Paradise*, a gripping political thriller full of twists and turns, is now streaming on Hulu.
