Mon Feb 03 18:42:31 IST 2025: ## Millions Participate in Final ‘Amrit Snan’ at Kumbh Mela 2025
**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India** – The final “Amrit Snan” (holy dip) of the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 took place today, February 3rd, coinciding with Basant Panchami, the Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of spring and the goddess Saraswati. Over 6.25 million devotees had taken the holy dip by 8 AM today, according to the Uttar Pradesh Information Department. This brings the total number of participants since the Kumbh Mela began on January 13th to over 340 million.
The ceremony began early this morning with Naga Sadhus (naked ascetics) taking the first dip in the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. A large crowd gathered at Prayagraj Junction, with devotees arriving from across India to participate in the ritual bath and celebrate Basant Panchami, believed to be the birthdate of Goddess Saraswati. Many also performed charitable acts and observed other rituals.
Additional Mela Officer Vivek Chaturvedi stated that adequate security measures were in place for the large number of pilgrims. Procession routes were managed by police in support of the Mahamandaleshwars (spiritual leaders) leading the various Akharas (religious orders) to the Sangam.
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025, which commenced on January 13th, will conclude on February 26th. This year’s final Amrit Snan marks not only a significant religious event, but also the beginning of preparations for Holi, forty days later.
