Sun Feb 02 09:10:00 IST 2025: **Kings Star De’Aaron Fox on the Trading Block; Spurs Emerge as Potential Suitor**
SACRAMENTO, CA – The Sacramento Kings are actively shopping All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox ahead of the February 6 NBA trade deadline, according to sources at The Athletic. More than half the league has reportedly inquired about the 27-year-old, whose desire for a long-term future with a championship contender has fueled the trade discussions.
The San Antonio Spurs are considered Fox’s preferred destination, potentially pairing him with rising star Victor Wembanyama. However, negotiations are complex. A key sticking point is the inclusion of Spurs rookie guard Stephon Castle in any potential trade. The Kings reportedly covet Castle, but the Spurs are hesitant to part with him. If the Spurs refuse to include Castle, the Kings must decide if alternative offers are sufficient.
Adding to the Spurs’ deliberations is the presence of veteran point guard Chris Paul, whose strong season has been crucial to the team’s improvement. Integrating Fox in the offseason, allowing Paul to finish the season, might be a more palatable option for San Antonio. Fox, who has one year remaining on his contract ($37 million), previously rejected multiple extension offers from the Kings.
While the Spurs are considered a desirable destination because Fox is likely to re-sign, the Kings are also considering offers from teams viewing Fox as a rental player. However, these offers are less attractive due to the risk involved. The situation has reportedly caused frustration among some Kings players.
The Kings, currently tied for 10th in the Western Conference, are not pursuing Miami Heat guard Jimmy Butler, who is currently suspended. Fox himself has expressed a desire to play for a team consistently competing at a high level, stating his current situation doesn’t fulfill that ambition. The Kings’ front office is actively working on several trade scenarios, but the future of De’Aaron Fox remains uncertain as the deadline approaches.
