**Kolkata, February 2, 2025** – A second-year MBBS student from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead in her room at Kamarhati ESI Hospital on Friday, January 31st. The deceased, Ivy Prasad, was unresponsive when her mother, a doctor at the same hospital, broke into her room. The Barrackpore Police Commiserate has registered a case of unnatural death, and a post-mortem was conducted at Sagore Dutta Hospital and Medical College.

While the cause of death remains unclear, suicide is suspected, although no suicide note was found. Fellow students described Prasad as well-behaved and reserved.

The incident has sparked concerns about the mental health of medical professionals, particularly given the recent rape and murder of a doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024. The convict in that case received a life sentence on January 20th.
