Sun Feb 02 02:52:53 UTC 2025: ## Remote Indian Valley Preserves Ancient Tribal Traditions

**Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, February 2, 2025** – The remote Patalkot valley in Madhya Pradesh is not just a haven for nature lovers, but also a vibrant repository of ancient traditions practiced by indigenous Bhariya and Gond tribes. These traditions, passed down through generations, include the unique Ganga Pujan and Beedari Puja ceremonies.

Ganga Pujan, a ritual honoring deceased family members, involves carving sacred symbols onto stones which are then placed at a sacred site and offered prayers. The Beedari Puja, a harvest and fertility ritual, sees community members bringing traditional dishes and clay-coated bamboo baskets filled with seeds (maize, millet, finger millet, and sorghum) to a village temple. These blessed seeds are then distributed, symbolizing shared blessings for a bountiful harvest.

These ceremonies underscore the tribes’ deep respect for nature, ancestors, and the divine. They also highlight the tribes’ agricultural knowledge and environmental reverence. The rituals, involving spiritual healers (ojhas) and traditional priests (gunias), are a testament to the enduring cultural heritage of the Patalkot valley.
