SAN FRANCISCO – Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant and Hall of Famer Gary Payton Sr. engaged in a lively, albeit friendly, exchange of trash talk during Friday night’s Suns victory over the Golden State Warriors. The playful banter, which dominated much of the third quarter, saw Durant repeatedly assert his dominance over the former defensive stalwart.

Durant, who scored 19 points in the game, claimed he was highlighting the differences in playing styles between their eras, playfully suggesting that Payton wouldn’t have been able to guard him in his prime. “They tend to talk down on the mentality of our era’s players,” Durant said, explaining his motivation.
