**Mumbai, India** – India clinched a resounding victory in the fifth and final T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today, extending their series win to 4-1. Winning the toss, England elected to field. India made one change to their playing XI, resting Arshdeep Singh and bringing in Mohammed Shami.
The match was highlighted by a breathtaking innings from Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a whirlwind 86 runs off just 29 balls, including four boundaries and nine sixes, narrowly missing a century. His performance included the second fastest fifty in T20I history, achieved in a mere 17 balls. Sharma’s explosive batting laid the foundation for India’s commanding total. However, India’s top order struggled again, with Sanju Samson failing to capitalize on a promising start, dismissed for 16 runs.
Despite early fireworks from Samson in the first over, the Indian innings saw a stumble when Samson was dismissed early. Tilak Verma provided support to Abhishek but did not contribute significantly.
While India showcased impressive batting prowess, their bowling attack effectively contained the England batsmen, preventing a significant comeback. England, under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, failed to match India’s performance in any department. The match saw several near-record breaking performances from the Indian side including Arshdeep Singh nearing his 100th T20I wicket and Suryakumar Yadav nearing the fastest 150 sixes in the format. Varun Chakravarthy also had the chance to break the record for most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in a bilateral T20I series.
This victory marks a dominant series win for India, cementing their position as the superior team. Despite England’s efforts, India’s powerful batting and disciplined bowling proved too strong, making it a convincing end to the series.
