**WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WLS)** – Woodstock Willie, the North suburban groundhog, has predicted an early spring, bucking the prediction of his Pennsylvania counterpart, Punxsutawney Phil. Willie, making his annual appearance before a crowd of onlookers at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, did not see his shadow, a sign traditionally associated with an early arrival of spring. This marks the second consecutive year Willie has forecast an early spring.
The city of Woodstock is celebrating Groundhog Day with a series of family-friendly events, including a screening of the iconic 1993 film “Groundhog Day.” In contrast, Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter.
