Sat Feb 01 23:18:54 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Gig Workers Union Welcomes Budget’s Social Security Scheme, But Demands Data Sharing

**Hyderabad, February 1, 2025** – The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has expressed cautious optimism regarding Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement of a social security scheme for gig workers in the recent budget. While welcoming the initiative, the union stressed the crucial need for aggregator companies to share worker data with the e-Shram portal to ensure the scheme’s effectiveness.

The budget proposes to provide identity cards, registration on the e-Shram portal, and healthcare under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana to nearly one crore gig workers. However, Shaik Salauddin of the TGPWU highlighted that the scheme’s success hinges on mandatory data sharing by aggregators. He argued that without strict compliance and transparent data transfer, the benefits will not reach the intended recipients.

The TGPWU continues to advocate for a comprehensive national law and a dedicated welfare board for gig and platform workers, reiterating its long-standing demand for a state-level welfare board in Telangana. The union also emphasizes the need for greater transparency and accountability from aggregators regarding wage calculation and work processes.
