**Mumbai, India** – Shahid Kapoor’s action thriller, “Deva,” has enjoyed a successful opening weekend, raking in ₹11.75 crore (approximately $1.4 million USD) in its first two days. The film, marking Kapoor’s return to the big screen after a year-long hiatus, saw a significant surge in collections on its second day, earning ₹6.25 crore compared to ₹5.50 crore on its opening day.
The Hindi-language film achieved a 13.07% occupancy rate on February 1st, with particularly strong performances in southern cities. Chennai and Bengaluru led the way with occupancy rates of 34.75% and 20.25%, respectively. Mumbai registered a 16.50% occupancy, followed by Hyderabad and Pune at 16.25%.
Directed by Rosshan Andrrews in his Hindi directorial debut, “Deva” features Kapoor as a brilliant but rebellious police officer investigating a complex case. The film, produced by Zee Studios and Siddharth Roy Kapur, also stars Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, and Kubbra Sait.
While receiving praise for Kapoor’s performance and being hailed by some as a “masterpiece” and “undisputed winner,” the film has also drawn comparisons to the Malayalam film “Mumbai Police” due to similarities in its opening scene. Kapoor himself has addressed concerns about similarities to his previous role in “Kabir Singh,” stating that “Deva” is a unique and distinct character.
