**New Delhi, [Date]** – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement of a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) interest subvention limit increase from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh is expected to significantly benefit India’s small and marginal farmers. The move, lauded by industry experts, aims to improve access to credit and boost agricultural productivity.

The enhanced credit limit will allow farmers to invest in better seeds, irrigation systems, and farming techniques, leading to increased yields and profitability, according to Anubhav Agarwal, MD and CEO of BN Group. Sandeep Sabharwal, Group CEO of SLCM, highlighted the positive impact on rural entrepreneurship through improved financial liquidity.

Currently, there are 7.75 crore operational KCC accounts nationwide, with outstanding loans totaling ₹9.81 lakh crore (as of March 2024). The scheme also extends to fisheries and animal husbandry, with 1.24 lakh and 44.40 lakh KCCs issued respectively by March 31st, 2024.

Gaurav Grover, CEO of ofi India, praised the government’s focus on agriculture as a key driver of economic growth, emphasizing that the increased KCC limit provides crucial financial support to farmers. The KCC offers revolving credit, allowing farmers to withdraw and repay funds based on their needs, and also provides access to various insurance options. The scheme aims to improve farmer access to institutional credit, thereby boosting investment, productivity, and income.
