Sun Feb 02 12:11:46 UTC 2025: ## Confusion over Basant Panchami Date Resolved by Jyotishacharya

**Khargaon, MP:** A debate arose regarding the exact date of Basant Panchami this year, with some observing it on February 2nd and others on February 3rd. Dr. Basant Soni, a renowned Jyotishacharya (astrologer) from Khargaon, has clarified the matter. He states that Basant Panchami begins on February 2nd at 9:14 AM and concludes on February 3rd at 6:52 AM. Therefore, he recommends observing the festival and performing Saraswati Puja on **February 2nd**, which also happens to be a *Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga* – an auspicious time for any auspicious activity, negating the need for further Muhurta (auspicious timing) calculations.

Dr. Soni explained the significance of Basant Panchami, citing its mention in scriptures as the day of creation by Brahma and the manifestation of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, music, and art. The festival marks the arrival of spring, scientifically notable for the onset of warmer temperatures and the blooming of mustard flowers, reflecting the yellow hue associated with the festival.

For Saraswati Puja, the astrologer suggests the auspicious time between 7:09 AM and 12:35 PM on February 2nd. He recommends offerings of white flowers, yellow clothes, white sesame seeds, and music. Placing a Veena (stringed instrument) and a book at the Goddess’s feet is considered auspicious. Devotees seek blessings for knowledge and wisdom.
