AMRITSAR, INDIA (February 2, 2025) – A six-member BJP delegation visited Amritsar today to investigate the recent attempted vandalism of a B.R. Ambedkar statue. The panel, which included Rajya Sabha member Brij Lal and former Union Minister Som Parkash, condemned the act and laid flowers at the statue.
Mr. Lal accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of failing to ensure a fair investigation, alleging a “jungle raj” and claiming that neither AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal nor Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had visited the site after the incident. He further alleged a conspiracy and described Kejriwal as the “biggest opponent of the Constitution and Baba Saheb.”
The panel plans to submit a report soon. Police arrested Akash Singh on January 26th for allegedly attempting to damage the statue with a hammer, an incident captured on video and widely circulated online. The attack also damaged a book representing the Constitution displayed with the statue.
