Sun Feb 02 03:52:29 UTC 2025: ## Modi Government Unveils Six New Agricultural Initiatives in Union Budget
**New Delhi, February 2, 2025** – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced six new initiatives aimed at boosting India’s agricultural sector in the Union Budget. These measures are designed to increase agricultural output, create rural employment, and improve the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen.
A key initiative, the “Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhan Krishi Yojana,” will focus on increasing agricultural productivity in 100 identified low-yield districts through collaboration with state governments. This program is expected to benefit 1.7 crore farmers.
To address rural unemployment, an Integrated Rural Prosperity Scheme will create employment opportunities, preventing rural-urban migration. This scheme will specifically target women, young farmers, youth, small and marginal farmers, and landless laborers.
A six-year plan will be implemented to achieve self-sufficiency in pulse production. Cooperative organizations like NAFED and NCCF will procure pulses from registered farmers over four years.
The Kisan Credit Card scheme will see an increase in short-term loan amounts from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, with interest subsidies. This will benefit 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen, and dairy producers.
To further strengthen India’s position as the world’s second-largest fish producer (with ₹60,000 crore in exports), the government will introduce infrastructure for sustainable fishing in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone and deep seas.
Finally, a new urea plant with a production capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes will be established in Namrup, Assam. These initiatives represent a significant investment in India’s agricultural future.
