Sat Feb 01 12:54:29 UTC 2025: ## Tiruchi Corporation Aims for National Quality Assurance Certification for Urban Health Centers

**Tiruchirappalli, February 1, 2025** – Four high-performing urban primary health centers (UPHCs) in Tiruchirappalli are vying for National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The initiative aims to elevate the city’s public healthcare services.

The selected UPHCs – located in Edamalaipattipudur, Periya Milaguparai, EB Road, and Woraiyur – will undergo inspections next week and this month. National-level teams will assess compliance with NQAS criteria, including infrastructure quality, services for expectant mothers and those with non-communicable diseases, and overall cleanliness. Certification will enhance the UPHCs’ status and secure additional funding and resources.

These two-story facilities offer a range of services, including general medicine, maternity care, immunizations, and treatment for communicable and non-communicable diseases. They also include pharmacies and labs, and conduct outreach programs. Polyclinics are available at three of the four centers.

The Edamalaipattipudur center, for example, serves approximately 310 patients daily and conducts 11 deliveries monthly. Similarly, the Periya Milaguparai center handles around 220 patients daily and two deliveries monthly. Both are well-staffed with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

City Health Officer M. Vijay Chandran highlighted the centers’ modern facilities and patient service tracking module, adding that efforts are underway to establish operation theaters and wards. He also noted that UPHCs in Ramalinga Nagar, Gandhipuram, and Subramaniapuram already hold the NQAS certification, and the corporation aims to certify all UPHCs within the year.
