**Salem, Tamil Nadu, February 1, 2025** – The Fort Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Salem celebrated its 150th anniversary on Saturday with a special event attended by District Collector R. Brindha Devi and Mayor A. Ramachandran. The celebration included the release of a commemorative book detailing the school’s history, achievements, and the contributions of its faculty and alumnae.
Collector Brindha Devi highlighted the school’s significant role in the community, noting that 70 government schools in the Salem district have been operational for over a century. She emphasized the remarkable achievements of the school’s alumni, who have excelled in various fields, including medicine, engineering, and public service. The Collector attributed this success to the dedication of the school’s teachers and the inherent confidence and teamwork skills of government school students.
The Fort Government Girls School, initially established as a primary school in 1874, has grown to become a prominent higher secondary school. The commemorative book released at the event chronicles this evolution and showcases the school’s lasting impact. The event was also attended by the Chief Education Officer M. Kabeer, Deputy Mayor M. Saradha Devi, former students, and officials from the School Education Department.
